The route

The walk follows a section of Levada dos Tornos, near the village of Camacha (parish of Santa Cruz municipality). You start beside the Igreja Matriz da Camacha and walk along the levada through relatively flat terrain, which makes the going easier on the legs.

In the rainy season, small water points and mini-waterfalls spill across the full width of the path, so non-slip footwear is strongly recommended.

Before you go
  • Because this isn't an official IFCN trail, there's no official signage or maintained infrastructure — navigation is largely self-reliant.
  • A 22.4 km hard out-and-back is a big day; carry enough water and start early.
  • After rain, expect wet, slippery sections where water crosses the path.
