This is a beautiful levada walk that takes you through Madeira's lush green valleys along the Levada Nova and the path of Lomba de São João. Like all levadas, it follows the island's historic irrigation channels — archaic structures once built to carry water to plantations across the island — giving you a different perspective on this part of Madeira's landscape.
The route is rated hard at 15.6 km (out and back), so allow a good 5½–6 hours and come prepared with proper footwear, water, and provisions.
Since this isn't an official IFCN trail, check locally that the path is accessible and in safe condition before setting out — there's no official status or signage guarantee. Weather in Madeira's interior can change quickly, especially on longer routes like this one.
