- Footpath of Eira do Mourão 4.0 Directions
Community route mapped on AllTrails — this is not part of Madeira's official PR (Percurso Recomendado) trail network managed by IFCN (the regional government's forests & nature-conservation authority). It therefore has no official open/closed status and no maintenance/signage guarantee; check access and conditions locally before going.
The Eira do Mourão belongs to the parish and municipality of Ribeira Brava. Due to its difficult access, this path was long isolated and neglected — but in 2022 the Ribeira Brava Parish Council cleaned and restored it. Today it's a spectacular trail rewarding walkers with beautiful landscapes over the Ribeira Brava valley, from downstream to upstream, passing huge furnas (deep gorges), springs, and ruined houses flanked by eiras (small circular agricultural terraces built of stone).

- Not an official IFCN trail — there's no guaranteed signage, maintenance, or real-time status monitoring. Conditions can change (landslides, overgrowth, path damage), so ask locally or check recent AllTrails reviews before heading out.
- The trail passes near steep furnas (gorges); take care in wet conditions.
