| Location | Machico parish, Madeira |
This is a pleasant, easy city path for a walk or run right through the parish of Machico, on Madeira's south-east coast. Along the route you'll visit the Fort of Nossa Senhora do Amparo — a distinctive piece of military architecture characterised by its triangular shape, with one angle pointing out towards the ocean. On the landward side you can see the gatehouse, topped by a Baroque pediment.
The trail then follows the banks of the Machico Stream (Ribeira de Machico) down to the Marina de Machico and Machico Beach, where you can take a refreshing dip on hot days — perfect for combining a short stroll with a beach visit.

Since this trail is right in Machico town, it's easily accessible by bus — Machico is a main stop on the eastern line from Funchal.
⚠️ Reminder: Because this is not an official IFCN trail, there is no official status (open/closed) to report. Check locally before you go, especially after heavy rain.
