What it's like: This linear trail runs alongside the historic canals of the Levada do Furado and the Levada da Portela through the lush laurel forest (laurissilva) — a UNESCO World Heritage ecosystem teeming with endemic trees including laurel and linden, mosses and giant ferns. Along the way you may hear local birds such as the Madeira redstart. The route combines dirt trails, tunnels, and narrow footbridges alongside the water, making it a varied and atmospheric walk.

Before you head out, check the current trail status on OpenMadeira — conditions can change, and tunnels/footbridges may be affected after heavy rain.
Would you like me to check the mountain forecast and IPMA warnings for the day you're planning to go, or look into how to get to Ribeiro Frio by bus?
