The trail runs along the esplanade of the Levada do Caldeirão Verde, between the Queimadas Forest Park and Pico das Pedras, in the municipality of Santana. Its name says it all — Um Caminho para Todos — a path for everyone:
- Wide, flat path with handrails on both sides and a constant, near-level surface — suitable for wheelchairs, mobility aids, and families with small children.
- The route passes through a transition zone between Madeira's native Laurisilva forest (a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999) and the exotic forest introduced by humans. The sounds of running water, the smell of damp earth, the characteristic humidity, and warm sunlight filtering through the canopy awaken all the senses.
- At the start, the Casa de Abrigo das Queimadas (shelter house) preserves the original features of Santana's traditional thatched-roof houses — now visitable as the "Casa das Tradições Madeirenses."
Typical species along the trail include Folhado (Clethra arborea), Uveira (Vaccinium padifolium), Urze das vassouras (Erica platycodon subsp. maderincola), Massaroco (Echium candicans), and Estreleira (Argyranthemum pinnatifidum). Birdlife includes the endemic Tentilhão (Madeiran Chaffinch, Fringilla coelebs maderensis) and Bis-bis (Madeiran Firecrest, Regulus madeirensis).
There's also a popular community-mapped route on AllTrails called Parque das Queimadas via Um Caminho para Todos — this is a longer 5.6 km, out-and-back variation rated 4.2★ from 290 hiker reviews on AllTrails, taking ~1.5–2 hours. It starts at the park, follows the accessible path, and lets you explore more of the beautiful green space with a small pond and picnic area.
⚠️ Community route mapped on AllTrails — not part of Madeira's official PR trail network managed by IFCN (the regional government's forests & nature-conservation authority), so it has no official open/closed status and no maintenance/signage guarantee; check access and conditions locally before going.
The Parque das Queimadas is a major trail hub. From the same starting point you can also tackle the famous PR 9 – Levada do Caldeirão Verde (17.4 km, out to the 100 m waterfall and back), or several community-mapped routes up toward Pico Ruivo. These are much more demanding hikes — Um Caminho para Todos is the gentle, accessible entry point.
