- Peak Ruivo do Paul 3.3 Directions
Heads-up: Pico Ruivo do Paul is a community route mapped on AllTrails — it is not part of Madeira's official PR (Percurso Recomendado) trail network managed by IFCN, the regional government's forests & nature authority. This means it has no official open/closed status and no maintenance or signage guarantee; check access and conditions locally before going.
The peak sits at 1,494 m on Paul da Serra, in the Central Mountainous Massif conservation area.

A short, inviting walk with a somewhat steep climb up to the summit. It's described as suitable for the whole family (including children) as long as proper care is taken. On a clear day you're rewarded with sweeping views over the surrounding mountains — though fog can roll in and obscure the sea, the moorland landscape is still striking.

The same summit features in a more popular route that also passes Estanquinhos and Fontes Ruivas:

This route crosses Paul da Serra with fabulous views over São Vicente valley. On clear days you can see the entire plateau; when clouds settle, the moorland atmosphere is uniquely beautiful. It's the better-reviewed of the two Ruivo do Paul routes.

What to know before you go:
- Being on Paul da Serra (Madeira's high plateau), the weather can change rapidly — fog and wind are common even when the coast is clear.
- There's no official signage or IFCN maintenance on these routes, so download the GPS track from AllTrails or carry a map.
- The terrain is exposed; bring layers and wind protection.
