Driving from Vila Baleira: about 4.2 km / ~9 minutes by car to the trailhead at Moledo → Directions ↗
Pico do Castelo (438 m) is one of Porto Santo's most iconic peaks — the trail climbs gently from Moledo through dry, volcanic terrain dotted with rare endemic plants. At the summit you'll find the ruins of a 16th-century watchtower (the castelo that gives the peak its name), built to spot pirates approaching the island. On a clear day the panoramic views stretch across all of Porto Santo and out over the Atlantic to Madeira's silhouette on the horizon.
The route is officially rated Easy, making it one of the most accessible peaks on either island — a great option if you want rewarding views without a strenuous climb. The altitude range (225–435 m) means the ascent is manageable and the trail is well-marked.
