Starting on Estrada Regional 209 near the stunning Fanal zone — one of Madeira's most emblematic landscapes, in the municipality of Porto Moniz — this loop trail ascends to Levada dos Cedros and follows the levada westward through the heart of the ancient Laurissilva forest. The path then descends back to the road before continuing along rural paths to complete the loop. The entire area is part of the Natura 2000 Network of Sites of Community Importance.
You'll walk through moss-draped centuries-old laurel trees, often shrouded in the mystical mist Fanal is famous for, with views over the island's valleys and mountains.

This route passes through an IFCN-managed area. The current access fee for the Fanal / Levada dos Cedros zone is €4.50 per visitor (over 12 years), free for children ≤ 12, paid via the SIMplifica portal. (This is the fee listed for the official PR 14 trail in the same area; confirm locally.)
Right alongside this community route is the official trail covering the same levada:
| PR code | PR 14 |
| Name | Levada dos Cedros |
| Route | Fanal → Curral Falso |
| Distance | 7.2 km |
| Difficulty | Moderate |
| Duration | ~3 hours |
| Altitude | 840 m – 1 090 m |
| Start | ER 209 (Fanal) |
| End | ER 209 (Curral Falso) |
| Community rating | ★ 4.5 from 1 144 reviews on AllTrails |
| Access fee | €4.50 (visitor > 12 yrs) via SIMplifica; free ≤ 12 yrs |
PR 14 is shorter (7.2 km vs 11.3 km) and carries official IFCN status and signage, making it the more straightforward choice if you want a Managed, signposted route. The community "Rota Circular" extends the walk into a longer loop for those wanting a bigger day out.
