- Peak Ruivo do Paul 3.3 Directions
Pico Ruivo do Paul is a walk on Paul da Serra, Madeira's largest plateau, in the Central Mountainous Massif conservation area. There are two community-mapped routes that go through this peak — neither is part of Madeira's official PR (Percurso Recomendado) trail network managed by IFCN (the regional government's forests & nature conservation authority), so they have no official open/closed status and no guaranteed maintenance or signage. Check access and conditions locally before setting out.
| Distance | 3.1 km (loop) |
| Time | 1–1.5 hr |
| Difficulty | Moderate |
| AllTrails | ★ 4.1 / 5 — 102 reviews |
| Area | Madeira Natural Park |
A pedestrian path over Paul da Serra with fabulous views over São Vicente. On a clear day you can see the entire plateau; when clouds and fog roll in, the mountain landscape takes on a beautiful, unique character. The summit rewards you with great photo opportunities.
| Distance | 3.4 km (loop) |
| Time | 1–1.5 hr |
| Difficulty | Moderate |

A family-friendly route with a somewhat steep climb up to Pico Ruivo do Paul, rewarded with beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding region. Suitable for children as long as proper care is taken.
⚠️ Important: Both are community routes mapped on AllTrails — not official IFCN-recommended PR trails. This means there is no official open/closed status, no maintained signage, and no guarantee of trail conditions. Check locally before you go, and be prepared for changing mountain weather.
Since Paul da Serra is a high, exposed plateau, I'd recommend checking the mountain forecast and any IPMA weather warnings before heading out — want me to look those up for you?
