- Trilho da Levada do Brasileiro 3.8 Directions
This walk is a community-mapped route on AllTrails — it is not part of Madeira's official PR (Percurso Recomendado) trail network managed by IFCN, the regional government's forests and nature-conservation authority. That means it has no official open/closed status, no maintained signage, and no guarantee of upkeep — check access and trail conditions locally before setting out.

The route follows the Levada do Brasileiro through dense Laurissilva forest on the north coast. The canopy is lush — dozens of shades of green — and the path stays close to the levada channel for most of the way, with the characteristic gentle gradient of a levada trail.
The name has a story: the levada was inaugurated in 1912, and its popular name refers to a former owner who had been an emigrant — a brasileiro (someone who left Madeira for Brazil and returned). It's one of several levadas on the island that carry this emigrant heritage in their name.

Because this is not an official IFCN-maintained trail:
- There is no official open/closed/restricted status — conditions can change without notice (fallen trees, washed-out sections, erosion).
- Signage and waymarking may be absent or outdated.
- Check locally (tourist office, local guides, or recent hiker reports) before you go, especially after heavy rain.
