Vereda da Ladeira is a community-mapped hiking trail near the seaside village of Madalena do Mar (Ponta do Sol), on the south-west coast of Madeira. It's a popular walk through one of the island's largest banana plantations, with lovely views over green valleys and the Atlantic Ocean.
⚠️ Community route — mapped on AllTrails and not part of Madeira's official PR trail network managed by IFCN (the regional government's forests & nature-conservation authority). It therefore has no official open/closed status and no maintenance or signage guarantee; check access and conditions locally before going.
The trail starts in the village of Madalena do Mar — once an important sugarcane production centre — and follows the line of the cable car up through the hillside. Along the way you pass one of the largest banana plantations on the island, thanks to the fertile soil and favourable microclimate of this sheltered coastal strip. The route then returns along the coast, always with the sea in sight.

There's also a related, easier shorter loop if you want something more relaxed:

Since this isn't an official IFCN trail, I'd recommend checking locally (or asking at the Ponta do Sol tourist office) for current path conditions before you go.
Want me to check the weather forecast for that area or find how to get to Madalena do Mar by bus from where you're staying?
