OpenMadeira (openmadeira.org) is operated by Madeira Friends Enterprise, Lda (Rua dos Barreiros, 26A, 9060-397 Funchal, Portugal; VAT PT518469670), the data controller. This policy explains what we collect and why. Questions: hello@madeirafriends.com.

What we collect

  • Account data. When you sign in, our authentication provider (Clerk) processes your name, email address and login credentials on our behalf. We store your account identifier.
  • Usage & credits. We store a per-account credit balance and a log of the questions you ask (text and timestamp) to operate the service, prevent abuse and improve answers.
  • Question processing. The questions you ask are sent to our AI provider (Mistral AI) to generate answers. Do not enter personal or sensitive information in your questions.
  • AI improvement. Your chats may be reviewed by us and used to train and improve our AI models. Please do not enter confidential information you would not want reviewed.
  • Analytics & ad measurement. We use Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads measurement to understand aggregate, anonymised usage (pages viewed, approximate region, device type) and the performance of our ads. Using Google Consent Mode, these run in a cookieless mode that stores no cookies or identifiers until you opt in — before consent, only anonymous, aggregated signals are sent. We do not sell your data. Essential cookies (sign-in, security) need no consent. .

Legal basis & your rights

We process account and usage data to perform our service (contract) and analytics under legitimate interest. Under the GDPR you may request access, correction, deletion or export of your data, or object to processing — email hello@madeirafriends.com. You can also delete your account at any time, which removes your account and usage records.

Retention & processors

We keep account and usage data while your account is active. Our processors include Clerk (authentication), Mistral AI (answer generation), Google (analytics) and our hosting provider (Hetzner, in the EU). Data is hosted in the EU.
